Quipu Group develops new website for the Innovative Users Group

March 31, 2009 -- DENVER, CO -- The partners of Quipu Group and the Innovative Users Group (IUG) are pleased to announce the relaunch of the Innovative Users Group Website, www.innovativeusers.org. The Website has been completely redesigned and configured to meet the needs of the IUG, a group of approximately 1200 public, academic and special libraries and their staff who use and support the Innovative Interfaces Inc. integrated library system. The Innovative Users Group was founded in 1991 as an international organization of member libraries who use the Innovative Interfaces, Inc. integrated library software. It is an independent organization from Innovative Interfaces, Inc.

The IUG originally contracted with Quipu Group to provide a detailed analysis of available content management systems. Following this evaluation period, IUG extended the contract with Quipu Group to install, configure, customize and maintain its Website. The site was implemented using Simian Systems' Sitellite, a mature and powerful open source web content management system (CMS) written in the PHP programming language and powered by the Apache web server and MySQL database. Sitellite was recommended by Quipu and chosen by the IUG for this implementation for its ease of use and scalability.

"As a 'user' group, the IUG relies heavily on its Web presence to deliver services and resources to its membership," states John Culshaw, IUG Chair and Associate Director for Administrative Services, University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries. "Since we are a volunteer organization, it has been difficult to make sure that the site was easy to maintain and keep current. Partnering with Quipu to migrate our site to a content management system is one of the best investments we have made in years. Not only do we have a fresh look and feel, but the bones of the site are in much better shape and the CMS makes it easy for any of our volunteer leaders to update content."

Quipu Group also incorporated the Open Conference Systems Web publishing tool into the IUG Website in order to be able to integrate its conference activities with the full Website, and created functionality for a clearinghouse, job listings and a membership management system.
